Summer Recital Series We will celebrate the 30th anniversary of our chapter’s annual Summer Recital Series in 2008! John Apple is historian for the Charlotte Chapter AGO and on the board of directors of the American Theatre Organ Society. He is president of the Metrolina Theatre Organ Society and vice-president of the Carolina Theatre Preservation Society. He is the author of Pipe Organs of Charlotte.
This program marks the 40th anniversary of the dedication of the 3-manual Casavant organ at Westminster Presbyterian Church (dedicated in May 1968).

Stephen and Susan Talley have served as Directors of Music at Covenant Presbyterian Church since 2001. Prior to moving to Charlotte, they served in similar positions in Boise, ID; Delray Beach, FL, and Erie, PA. Their daughter Laurel Talley will join them for this program.

The Charlotte Chapter of the American Guild of Organists established the Robert and Ann Stigall Scholarship in 2002, in honor of Bob and Ann's many years of service at Myers Park Presbyterian Church and in the Charlotte community. This program will feature one of the 2007 winners of the Robert and Ann Stigall Scholarship (David Anderson) and two college organ students from the Charlotte area (Derrick Goff and Paul Thomas).

Matthew W. Noonan serves as the Director of Music and Organist for Ascension Lutheran Church. A past winner of an AGO regional competition and the Arthur Poister International competition, Matthew has played concerts in nearly every European country, most recently playing in Great Britain's Royal Naval Chapel. Matthew is currently preparing to perform the complete works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Bruce Neswick of St. Philip’s Cathedral in Atlanta will direct a choir of boys, girls, teens and adults in a service of Choral Evensong in the English cathedral tradition. The course organist will be Dr. Janette Fishell, Distinguished Professor of Music at East Carolina University and organist/choirmaster of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Greenville, North Carolina. In August she will become Professor of Organ at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Bloomington.The course choir will come together on Monday, June 23 and work for the week to prepare this program under the auspices of the Royal School of Church Music in America.

Christopher Brayne is Director of Music and Organist at Christ Episcopal Church, a position he has held since 2000. Prior to this he was Organist and Master of the Choristers at Bristol Cathedral in England. He studied with Gillian Weir, John Birch and Jean Langlais and has given recitals in most of the major venues in England and given concerts in New Zealand, Germany and Holland as well as USA. He is a former President of the Bristol and District Organists Association and a current member of the AGO, AAM and ACDA.

Sonata I in D Minor, Op. 42 Alexandre Guilmant III. Final (1837-1911) James David Christie has been internationally acclaimed as one of the finest organists of his generation. He has served as organist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1978 and has performed and recorded under such conductors as James Levine, Seiji Ozawa, Sir Colin Davis, John Williams, Edo de Waart, Gerard Schwartz, Jeffrey Tate, Andrew Davis, Klaus Tennstedt, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Trevor Pinnock, Roger Norrington, Bernard Haitink, Charles Dutoit, Christopher Hogwood and Andrew Parrott. Mr. Christie received his degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and the New England Conservatory, including the coveted Artist Diploma. Ken and Sharon De Boer, Director of Music and Organist/Music Associate at Sardis Presbyterian, have headed a 12-choir church music program for the past 12 years at Sardis since moving to Charlotte from Hawthorne, NJ. C. Justin Smith, a native of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, was graduated cum laude from the undergraduate college of Wake Forest University in May 2008. A political science major and music minor, he studied organ and church music with Dan Locklair. In addition to currently serving the Winston-Salem, Charlotte, and Kings Mountain communities in a variety of church music roles, he was organist and coordinator of music for the Wake Forest University Episcopal Student Fellowship, as well as Chapel Organist, playing for services of University Worship and Thursday Chapel, sponsored by the Office of the University Chaplain. A dual member of the Winston-Salem and Charlotte chapters of the American Guild of Organists, Justin just completed his second term on the Executive Board of the Winston-Salem chapter and is currently the coordinator of the annual student recital of the Charlotte chapter.

Henry Lebedinsky holds degrees from Bowdoin College and the Longy School of Music, where he earned a Master of Music in historical organ performance as a student of Peter Sykes. An active performer on organ, harpsichord, and clavichord, he has given numerous recitals around the country. In addition to performing, Mr. Lebedinsky has led workshops on historical keyboards and performance practice at The New England Conservatory of Music, Boston University, Davidson College, UNC Greensboro, and Appalachian State University. A church musician since the age of 17, he currently serves as organist and director of music at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Davidson, North Carolina, where he also directs the successful Music at St. Alban’s concert series, now in its fifth season.
